Sustainable lighting
The city of the future will be called upon to improve quality of life for its inhabitants, expand and grow, ensure social cohesion within its boundaries and protect the environment. Among the tools enabling it to do this, one is crucial - Lighting. Lighting provides safety, security and comfort, fosters business and leisure activity and enhances neighbourhoods by showcasing their image and identity.
Citéos supports local authorities in their sustainable urban development programmes, optimising their energy purchasing and consumption and advising them on lighting efficiency, use of renewable energies and reduction of light pollution.
In France:
- The number of light points increased by 1 million over the last 15 years;
- Public Lighting energy consumption increased by 44%, i.e. 6 billion KWh, over the last 15 years;
- Public Lighting comes in second place in the typical municipal energy balance and in first place in municipal electricity consumption, accounting for up to 40% of the power consumed;
- Light pollution is increasing by 10% every year.
Citéos undertakes to:
- Monitor developments in energy savings, provide training and circulate information
- Advise on energy purchasing
- Perform a diagnostic review for the local authority
- Manage power demand and purchasing terms and conditions
- Test and promote renewable energies
- Give its customers the benefit of additional income opportunities, e.g. from energy savings certificates.
For example, in the western French city of Concarneau, public lighting works and maintenance reduced the failure rate from 21 to 5.7% and increased lighting efficiency by more than 20% over a period of 10 years.
